Union Square is just three blocks from the Pickwick San Francisco The Hotel and is bounded by Powell, Post, Stockton and Geary Streets. The square is one of the top 4 shopping areas by volume in the United States. The square itself is named for a series of pro-Union demonstrations that took place at the beginning of the Civil War.
One block from the Pickwick is the famed San Francisco Cable Car turnaround at the end of Powell St at Market. The Powell-Hyde line will take you through to Chinatown, the Cable Car Museum, past famed Lombard Street northbound to the waterfront, with Fisherman's Wharf to the east and Ghirardelli Square to the west.
Golden Gate Theatre, located just two blocks east of the hotel, is a 2300 seat Beaux Arts Style theatre built in 1922 for the Orpheum circuit.
